He served in the Navy and was a member of the PNA Lodge No. 3128.

He was retired from Karnes Electric Co-op with 39 years of service and served as commander of the Karnes City VFW Post No. 8572. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a 4th degree Knight of the Karnes City Knights of Columbus, and was a Eucharistic minister at St. Cornelius Catholic Church.

KARNES CITY – Charles R. Beard, 78, of Karnes City, died Monday, May 19, 2003. He was born March 18, 1925, in Karnes City, to the late Archie and Addie Roberts Beard. He was a trainer of an Appalossa horse that was a reserve champion performer for Texas. He owned a chicken restaurant in Karnes City and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
