CAVAZOS, Jesus “Chuy”

Jesus “Chuy” Cavazos, 73, of Gonzales, died Sunday, March 12, 2017, in Gonzales.

Mr. Cavazos was born Oct. 25, 1943, to Bartolo and Guadalupe “Lupe” (Martinez) Cavazos in Portland. He was a longtime resident of Karnes City and worked many years with Rosales Painting and then at Tyson’s in Nixon. Later, he moved to O’Donnell, working as a maintenance supervisor. He moved to Gonzales the last five years of his life and was a resident of The Height of Gonzales Nursing Home.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Romana (Gonzales) Cavazos of Nordheim; his parents, Bartolo and Lupe Cavazos; maternal grandparents, Rafael Martinez and Jesusa Martinez; paternal grandparents, Ceralvo Cavazos and Maria Cavazos; maternal great-grandmother, Rosa Martinez; brother, Rafael Cavazos; stepson, Vidal Medina and step-son-in-law, Gilbert Alvarez Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Margarita Cavazos of Gonzales; daughter, Monica Cavazos (Michael) Rodriquez of Lubbock; stepdaughters, Guadalupe Alvarez of Gonzales and Paula (Roldan) Coronado of Elgin; sisters, Anita Maria Sixtos, Antonia Maria Cavazos, Emelia Cavazos, Guadalupe Cavazos Morales, Lori Cavazos (Paul) Groschl and SMSgt Teodula Rosa Cavazos; four granddaughters; 10 step-grandchildren; 24 step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

A service was held Friday, March 17, at St. James Catholic Church with internment at the Catholic Cemetery in Gonzales.

Pallbearers were Michael Medina, Chris Martinez, Max Martinez, Michael Rodriquez, Ramon Casteneda and Paul Zamora.

Arrangements were under the direction of Funeral Caring, San Antonio.
